Jessie James Decker is a country pop music superstar, but she's also a well-known fitness buff and healthy-living cook, which is why she knows how to rock a swimsuit. She just shared some behind-the-scenes footage of a recent beach shoot, with her in a bathing suit and her prep team setting up the shot. "Always with the gum," she captioned it, with Jimmy Buffett's "Margaritaville" playing in the background. How does she stay so fit? Decker is a mother of three. And last year, she was determined to get into her best shape. "The top of this year I decided to really step it up in the gym! Build more muscle, get my core in order and get stronger!" she wrote on Instagram, next to a photo of herself in the gym. "I know my core will probably never be as strong as it used to be but damn it I'm gonna try! I have goals and I'm not stopping until I'm there," she told E!
"I gained the quarantine 10, like everybody did," she confessed. "I mean, we were having, like, wine every night for a minute there. I'm like, 'Oh my god, this is not a good habit!' So we're back on a good program, I'm working out a few times a week. I'm eating well. And so I just feel good about it," she told E!
"There are some weeks when I'm following more of a strict diet because I have something coming up," she says. "But, you know, for the most part, I'm always enjoying food and I always say 'everything in moderation' on a day-to-day basis," she told Women's Health.
Decker wrote a cookbook called Just Feed Me and is a big proponent of making your own meals. "When you're cooking at home and you know what you're putting in your food, I don't think you have to be that strict," she explains. "I don't always think it needs to be grilled chicken over greens. A lot of times I make my homemade pasta so I know what's going in the pasta. It's not that challenging and it's worth it," she told Women's Health.
"My work out 💪 and what I eat in a day," she once wrote on Instagram. "I work out 3 to 4 times a week and they pretty much look like this"—the video had her doing an overhead squat with band, a lateral medicine ball toss and other moves—"with certain variations whether were doing more upper body or lower body. Btw my trainer @klugfitness is the bomb.com! Transforming me!" She continued: "I usually don't eat first thing in the morning but if I do I will have a bowl of oatmeal or toast. I have coffee with cream (can't give that up) after my work out I have a protein shake (20grams)
-For lunch lunch I will have 4 to 6 ounces chicken salad or chicken over rice.
-For snack if I'm really not watching I will have chips and salsa but if I'm really watching myself I will have a homemade protein energy ball (those are in my @justfeedme cook book) around 3 o'clock I have an espresso
-For dinner I will either have a lean red meat like flank steak with vegetables , chili from my book or the same kind of thing chicken and rice vegetables or my fit-enchiladas from my first book ! -For dessert I will have a piece of chocolate.
-Now you guys know I love to eat so this is only when I'm really watching myself and wanting to tone up even more and lean up a little bit more."
"I always tell mothers, like, that should be the last thing on your mind," she said to E!. "After you have a baby, please do not think about trying to lose weight. Just feed your baby. Love on your baby. You have a newborn. Your body is trying to heal. You will know when your body is ready. Don't listen to your brain telling you, 'Lose weight, lose weight.' You'll know when you physically feel like, 'OK, I feel like I'm ready to kind of have that energy and can run around.'"
"I know you'll see a lot of people in the public eye and they drop weight in what seems like five minutes after having a baby and I think we all feel like we should live up to those expectations," Decker wrote on Instagram. "I've even been guilty of that myself and thinking I need to rush and lose weight two months after having a baby when I see all these skinny girls post baby but that is just not realistic for the majority of us. I have been every shape and size over the last 4 1/2 years from having children and never had to worry about losing weight until I had kids. I had good metabolism and had always been that way before. Having children definitely changed everything and I'm so blessed and grateful to have my babies as y'all know but it definitely can test your self-esteem when you are used to looking and feeling a certain way. I got up to 165 pounds with my first baby and being 5'1 it was really hard on my frame and I definitely struggled self esteem wise." She credited the South Beach Diet with getting her back on track.
